Paul Newtson
Director, Grants
Mr. Newtson is Director Grants for Bluejay Advisors. In this capacity, he is primarily responsible for various aspects of all grant applications that Bluejay produces on behalf of clients, including research, analysis, writing and supporting documentation.
Prior to joining Bluejay Advisors, Mr. Newtson spent 19 years at CSX Transportation in Jacksonville, Florida, the largest railroad in the eastern United States. During his time in management at CSX, he worked in various departments including Intermodal, Network Rationalization, Strategic Planning, Car Management, and Crew Management. While there, he managed a variety of railcar fleets with increasing responsibility, eventually overseeing the distribution of more than 8,000 railcars, translating to more than $400 million in company assets. He provided fleet management assistance with a focus on customer service to a variety of Fortune 500 companies. Mr. Newtson has significant experience with railcar leasing, railcar ownership, car hire, car repair, and railcar cleaning.
Mr. Newtson spent the previous five years writing transportation-related grant applications, including federal applications under various USDOT- and EPA-funded programs, for projects costing upwards of $35 million. His recent work alongside Bluejay Advisors led to more than $115 million in grant funding for clients. He also previously wrote state, federal, and corporate foundation grant applications for the health care industry.
Mr. Newtson has a solid understanding of the dynamic short line railroad industry, having worked with dozens of short lines over the past 20 years. He understands the requirements needed to make short lines successful.
Mr. Newtson is a graduate of the University of Florida, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Telecommunication with a Minor in Business Administration. Mr. Newtson received his M.B.A. from Jacksonville University.
